HELP US HELP OUR FRIENDS

In 2011-2012, the CLAA will be assisting the MOP in a number of ways.  First, Mr. Michael will be returning to Jamaica in October 2011 to resume work on the MOP Institute's accreditation project, serving as a liaison between the MOPs and the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) and to attend chapter meetings of the MOP.  Second, the CLAA will be providing warehouse facilities for the MOP's collection of supplies for shipment overseas.  Third, and most importantly, the CLAA is again raising funds to help with the completion of the "Jesus Redeemer Center" project in Kingston, Jamaica, which we began in 2010.

In 2010, the CLAA and its families donated over $30,000 towards the purchase of the center.

The challenge today is to help our brothers raise the money needed to renovate and repair the purchased building which will be used to house MOP brothers, host overseas volunteers and to evangelize the poor in the slums of Kingston.  Our part in this ministry is simple:  raise the needed funds.

You may make a gift to this project by check or by a secure online payment.  To make an online donation, simply use the "Donate Now" button on the right.  To donate by check, make your check payable to the "Missionaries of the Poor and mail it to the CLAA office at 1621 Stack Rd., Monroe, NC 28112.  Please add the note "CLAA - Jesus Redeemer Center" when you make your gift.   Your donation will go directly to the Missionaries of the Poor in Kingston, Jamaica and help us to complete this mission.  Thank you.

ALL DONATIONS TO THE MISSIONARIES OF THE POOR ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.

The donation button on the right allows you to make a one-time tax-deductible donation directly to the Missionaries of the Poor.

When making your donation, please specify the amount you wish to donate and in the "Special Instructions" enter: CLAA - Jesus Redeemer Center

You will receive a "Thank You" letter from the Missionaries of the Poor confirming your tax-deductible donation.

THE CLAA BENEFITS TOO!

In addition to the obvious spiritual benefits of this mission project, we have gain much from our support of the MOP.  This project is not merely a gift to the Missionaries of the Poor for their use far, far away.  The building that will be purchased and renovated will be used to lodge CLAA families that participate in the CLAA missions trips to Jamaica.   Therefore, we will be investing in our own housing for future missions trips as well as the ministry of the brothers there on the ground.  Please join us and allow us to make this gift to the work of our brothers serving the poor for us.

Above: Satellite view of the Kingston ghetto.  MOP Prince of Peace Monastery and Corpus Christi Monastery are filled to capacity with brothers and hundreds more will be arriving in the next few years for MOP formation and service!  The addition of the Jesus Redeemer Center (aka "East Street property" in orange) will provide room for them, while allowing the MOP's influence to expand in the area.  This, dear friends, is how the Kingdom of God grows in an area filled with darkness!  Please help us.

APPEAL  FROM  FR. RICHARD HO LUNG, MOP

July 9, 2010

Dear William and Dania,

Blessings!

I am now 70 years old--also I am 50 years a religious.  I ask you for a gift for the salvation of souls--to purchase a building on East Street right behind Prince of Peace monastery.

Over the years in obedience to the word of God, I have molded Missionaries of the Poor in the name of Christ. I trust Him, I desire only one thing in life, to be true to the Lord.

In Matthew 10: 9 He tells us, "Take no gold, nor silver, nor, copper, in your belts, no bag for your journey."  Jesus tells us to care for the sick, the weak, the lepers, the mentally sick, the poorest and the most out cast of people. He also added, "you received without pay give without pay."

Missionaries of the Poor has labored greatly over the past 29 years of our existence. We care for, and house hundreds of the poorest of people in Kenya, Uganda, Haiti, Orissa, and Warangal in India, Cebu and Naga city in the Philippines, and Kingston Jamaica. Right now we are also establishing new missions in Monroe, North Carolina, and Routen, in Indonesia.

Our apostolates take in lepers, HIV victims, cripples, the blind, the mute, old men and women, discarded disabled children; in a word, the cast aways in society who have nowhere to live, no food to eat and no one to care for them.

Our community of brothers and priests is growing rapidly, and many lay people, volunteers and associates come to us to touch the nail marks and the wounds of the crucified Christ experienced in forgotten and broken humanity. We also need a soup kitchen for many hungry children in the area, some of them young girls ready to prostitute themselves for a lunch money or bus fare.

We don’t have space. We need your help, and the help of your CLAA families to purchase and repair a building near our monastery. It is 13,000 sq ft and badly needs repair. The cost is $200,000.00 for the building and the repairs. Most of the repair will done by our brothers.

I am not able to do much begging these days. There is too much work to be done, such as forming the brothers and caring for the poor.   Tell your friends that the building will be honored with the name of Jesus and your wonderful CLAA families.

With love and blessings,
