We are not among those who believe that "parents are the best educators". Education is a bit more complicated than that.  Never in history did elite students receive a liberal arts education from their parents, unless their parents happened to be the schoolmasters.

However, in our generation, technology has made elite education available at home.  Students no longer need to go to another location to receive expert instruction.  Parents, rather than trying to oversee their children's behavior and work at school, can fulfill their duties much more efficiently at home.  These are the reasons we promote home schooling.

The Classical Liberal Arts Academy offers the six things many home schooling families are seeking:  (1) clear religious instruction, (2)  elite academic standards, (3) simple administration, (4) flexible scheduling , (5) accessible expert assistance and (6) affordability.

While there is a lot to learn for families new to the CLAA, once you get used to things, you will find our program the simplest and most efficient program available.

WHERE TO BEGIN

The Academy offers a number of aids for home schooling families which we would recommend to you.

First, we recommend that you subscribe to our newsletter, the Examiner.  The Examiner includes a monthly column for home school families and many other helpful resources.

Second, read the articles posted on the home page of the site.  These take aim at the root of the many of the problems that must be overcome in education.  Generally, the answer most of the questions new families have when they get started in the CLAA.

Fourth, contact us!  We are happy to help you with the details of your classical home school.  Send us your questions knowing that a helpful, personal response will be on the way in no time.

Fifth, parents who are really serious about home school instruction may complete our Praeceptor Training Program.  This provides detailed practical and philosophical training in how to teach the classical liberal arts curriculum.  It can also provide a source of flexible income from home if there are other Academy families in your area.

SUPPORT FOR MOTHERS

While the CLAA doesn't require parents to teach, there are many ways parents can improve and support their children's studies.  CLAA Home Study Support is managed by Mrs. Dania Michael.

Mrs. Michael graduated with a degree in Classics from Rutgers University and studied in the Rutgers Graduate School of Education.  After a short teaching career, Mrs. Michael became a full-time home schooling mother with the birth of her first child in 2000.  Since then, she has welcomed six more children, and has worked with her husband (William Michael) to ensure that home schooling families may study the classical liberal arts with success.   Mrs. Michael knows the program inside and out--from a mother's perspective--and has used it with great success.

We offer no-nonsense, practical advice to CLAA parents, rooted in "real-world" experience and sound classical/Catholic principles (not random "good ideas").  Feel free to submit your questions directly to Mrs. Michael:
