CLAA CHARITY

"If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well," but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?"

St. James 2:15-16

Unlike most schools in America, the Classical Liberal Arts Academy begins and ends with active charity.  We challenge our families to join us in impacting the world by investing our time, talents and treasures in the works of our friends, the Missionaries of the Poor.

Because of our relationship with the MOP, CLAA families have the opportunity to immerse their families in some of the most exciting works being done by the Catholic Church in our generation.  The CLAA brings adults and older students onto the mission field to visit and work among the world's poorest people and provides CLAA friends and families with the opportunity to help us bring the Missionaries of the Poor  into the United States for the first time.

You can complain about Christianity in America...or you can help us change it.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

I. Catholic Education for the Poor

Mr. Michael was called by Fr. Richard Ho Lung (MOP founder) to provide a Catholic  educational program for the homeless children cared for by the Missionaries of the Poor around the world.  This call led to Mr. Michael's vision for "the Beatitudes School", which is currently in development through the help of generous CLAA volunteers.  You can help!

2.  Support for MOP Formation
Mr. Michael was also invited to help improve the MOP formation program and find a way to obtain accreditation from the University Council of Jamaica...without compromising the MOP Institute's spiritual goals.  This  project has been in progress since July 2009 and is moving along speedily.  Mr. Michael also donates his time and talents teaching the MOP brothers in Jamaica--most recently teaching a course in classical Rhetoric in February 2010.

3.  Development of MOP USA Mission!!
While our overseas work is thrilling stuff, our greatest challenge is the development of the MOP's first American mission, located near the CLAA headquarters in Monroe, NC.  We are helping to establish Guardian Angels Monastery, which will be the formation center for American MOP vocations and the MOP's first American apostolate which will bring the MOP's saintly works of mercy to the American poor.

Above:  Bro. Rodel, MOP visits a tent among the homeless living in the woods near the MOP's first American mission.  Your support can help transform Catholic spirituality in America.

WE WANT YOU TO HELP!

We cannot beat around the bush when it comes to money:  without generous financial support, missions work does not get done.  The people we serve are homeless and destitute and they cannot pay for the services they need--plain and simple.  We are not asking for prayers and good wishes for poor men, women and children in need of food, clothing and medical care.  We are asking for money to constantly supply the mission with the needed food, clothing and supplies.  We are not asking for you to fund our charity work.  We are asking you to help us do more

We have been asked by the Missionaries of the Poor to fund this mission and in this CLAA families have been given an opportunity to prove that we are true followers of Christ and no idle talkers.  Your support will bring MOP spirituality into the United States and will transform American evangelization while also reviving the Catholic witness in our own country.  Please help us do more!

COME AND SEE

As the US mission develops, we will be coordinating volunteer missions visits that allow your family to come and participate directly in the life and works of the Missionaries of the Poor.  This is standard procedure for the MOPs, who always welcome friends and volunteers to join them.   Families will be able to stay with us while completing short-term projects here at the mission throughout the year.  For more information, contact us.
