Directions:  Watch the following prelection carefully. It is designed to help you understand your Latin reading assignment.  You should know everything in this prelection before taking your lesson exam.

Directions:  Students must memorize the following passage and all vocabulary words. 

Reading (John 1:24-28)

Argument:  In this passage, St. John continues to speak of the meeting between John the Baptist and the Pharisees who were sent from Jerusalem to question him.  John tells them that the One he told them about earlier—the Word—is among them and that they shall soon see Him!  As we read, we will discuss the Substantives and Adjectives we find, to see our Grammar lessons in action.

24 Et     qui   missi fuerant erant ex Pharisaeis.  25 Et interrogaverunt eum
And  those who  sent    were      were from the Pharisees.  And    they asked           him
et dixerunt     ei,   "Quid  ergo    baptizas  si tu non es Christus neque 
and  they said  to him,   "Why then   do you baptize if you not  are  Christ        nor          
Helias neque propheta?".

Directions:  These translation exercises should be completed daily until the lesson is completed and exam is passed. 

1.  Each day, complete your translation exercises using the following worksheet.  Write out the Latin lines of this passage in a notebook, skipping a line after each Latin line.  Then, reading the Latin you've written, translate into English word-by-word or phrase-by-phrase in the lines after each Latin line.  When finished, check your translation with your prelection above and circle any words you did not know.  Write each of these words under your translations and copy them with their meaning 5 times each.
