1.  Prelection


Directions:  Watch the following prelection carefully. It is designed to help you understand your Latin reading assignment.  You should know everything in this prelection before taking your lesson exam.

2. Lesson Exercises


Directions:  Complete each of the activities listed below before attempting your lesson exam.  Written lessons can be checked by a parent using this lesson or sent to your instructor to be checked the same day.  You can fax your exercises to 1-800-318-0261 or e-mail them to studenthelp@classicalliberalarts.com.

1.  Copy out your Latin verses onto a lined piece of paper, skipping a line after each copied line.  After you copy the entire reading, write out the English translation, word-for-word, under each line.  When you finish, re-write the English translation using everyday English.  You may look at your lesson notes when you begin, but the goal is to complete this lesson from memory.  That is when you will know that you have mastered the lesson.

Directions:  It is important that we memorize Latin verses to master the vocabulary and get experience with Latin sentences.  This memory work will help you later in you Latin composition exercises.

Reading (John 1:1-3)


In   principio   erat Verbum et   Verbum erat apud Deum et
In  the beginning   was  the Word  and  the Word  was   with    God    and
Deus erat Verbum.  Hoc erat in principio  apud Deum.
 
God  was   the Word.    This   was  in the beginning with    God. 

Omnia  per ipsum facta sunt et     sine   ipso factum est nihil
