Lesson 01:  Introduction


Directions:  This course provides step-by-step instruction and exercises to lead young children to count, read and write numbers rightly.  Students are expected to learn each lesson and to demonstrate mastery of the skills covered.  This page is designed to be printed and studied away from the computer.  Make sure your text size settings are set to "Medium" before printing.

 

Assignments:

  1. Watch Reading Lesson 01 as many times as the child needs to learn the lesson.

  2. Complete Memory Work.

  3. Complete Lesson Exercises.

  4. When the content of the lesson is mastered, complete the Lesson Examination.

Directions:  The following video lessons is intended to allow a young child to study independently.  It is recommended that parents supervise their children in using these videos, until independence is achieved.

Directions:  Read the following lesson and discuss each point with your child.  Memorization is recommended, but not required.

Arithmetic is the study of Quantity.

 

2.  What is Quantity?

A Quantity is anything that can be counted or measured.

 

3.  What will we learn in Petty School Arithmetic?

In Petty School Arithmetic, we will learn to count to one thousand, and to read and write any number (in English and Latin).
